The Music Industry is Changing: And as a songwriter I have to change with it. - August 3, 2008

10 years ago, I picked up a guitar and I haven't looked back.

I used to sing in my old choir back in MT and I realized this was something I really wanted to do. You know how in books they talk about "Getting Shivers down your spine?" Well that's what happened when I picked up my grandfather's old nylon string guitar and started playing.

Now I'm sharing this with you because I think it's only fair you know a piece of me as well as my music. Usually I'm so busy talking/marketing my albums I have little time to sit down and reflect. Today is a Day of reflection.

Since that day, I've been on a crazy journey and thankfully music has been a part of it. I've had to learn that becoming Famous - although a nice dream - isn't why I started writing songs. So here's a secret for you all: I started writing songs and still do - for one simple reason - it's the one place I can go that makes sense. It's a world that I know, that's pure and true - that deals with hardships, lust, love, lost - but moves on and hopefully transcends into something that echoes hope and forgiveness and although I hate to say it because I think it is often used in the wrong context - Love.

Today, as a 28 year old singer/songwriter, I'm faced with a world that is changing musically.
The old ways - aka: touring/promoting is becoming a face of the past. With the Internet a song writer like "Iron Wine" can record his songs and be a huge sensation. Sure touring helps, nothing is better than a live show, but it's not the be-all-end-all. I believe in the future the Record Industry and the Musician are going to take on a whole new role.

There will always be "The Big Guys." But I hope to see in the future a lot more independent Entrepeneurs - who believe in a method I have come to live by.
Do it Yourself. I will name a few here who deserve the title, Derek Sivers, (CD Baby) and Noel Ramos (IMC - Independent Music Convention) not to mention a fortitude of other independent thinkers who have helped pave the way for those who are good and do have something to say and respect their craft as songwriters/performers.

My friends, I say all this because I am on this route. I have never been one to go along with the system, it's just not me. Success these days is Niche Marketing and having Great Material. Thankfully, we are now leaving our decision up to you. The Listener.

Which brings me to my next point: As a songwriter I've decided instead of playing my songs and performing for a few people here and there in LA. Why not take my craft to you. I mean it is You who helped me sell 1,000 CD's on the streets of Hollywood. You can't blame me for looking for a familiar face.

Thanks to YOU, I'm now launching my little Company called:
www.mytuneforyou.com

Which is exactly that. In other words, you can have a song written for a friend as a gift, or heck I had a My Tune Friend recently want a song written about a house! You tell me what you want and I'll get it done for you.

Every one should have a song - and for $29 to $50, depending on how long you want your song. I'll write one for you. :)

www.mytuneforyou.com

"Your Song. Your Life. In Tune."

Hope to hear from all of you, because I'd love to write your song.

All the Best and have a great rest of the summer,

Sincerely Yours,
Deron Wade

CD'S. I'm almost sold out! - August 1, 2008

6 months ago I decided to quit my job and focus on music 100%. I realized I had 1,000 Pressed CD's ready to be sold - the only problem was - no one was selling them. This box of CD's sat in my closet for 2 years and in a way helped build up the Guilt I needed to tell myself I was going to sell every last CD if it killed me.
Today, I'm happy to report I'm still alive and have sold 940 CD's personally to the kind folks I've met on Venice Beach, Santa Monica Promenade, Hollywood Blvd and eve the few shows I've played around the area. I would like to extend a warm thank to all of those folks out there who have helped me with my dream. I've tried to list some of the Countries/Towns/Cities/Continents here.
Thank you to my friends in Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, England, Egypt, Austria, India, Hungary, Sweden, Canada Switzerland, Japan, China, Thailand, Belize, Berlin, London, Birmingham, Cairo, Dubar, Montreal, Ontario, and of course all of my friends here in the states. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
You, who are reading this right now, are responsible for my success - and I can't thank you enough for believing in my Music and helping me make this dream of mine have wings.
Thank you for making this year a success and I look forward to getting more music out to you soon.

Catching Up with All of YOU! - July 9, 2008

Thank you to everyone who has kept up with me these past 6 months.
As you know, my last entry was in January - I did that for a number of reasons, first and foremost, I wanted to see my progress from January to now. I am astonished that when I embarked upon this quest - of just trying to live by selling my CD's - I had no idea what was going to happen. The results I've received have gone above and beyond any of my expectations and I owe that to you. My Constant Music LIstener. Without you. I would have no one.
So thank you.
Thank you to my German, Austrian, Australian, New Zealand, French, Egypt, American, and all others who have supported me as I continue trying to just do MUSIC for a living. You have no idea how much your support really means to me as a singer/songwriter - human being just trying to do their thing in the world.

I hope to be in touch with all of you soon as far as my next gigs, etc. A lot has happened for me professionally and personally - I will release a new album soon, and I will play more shows - however, I am against what most bookers do here in LA. As a musician at some point you learn to say No. I love playing shows, but at some point it doesn't matter any more. You see. I've played the subways, streets of NYC, Boston and now of course LA. I'm in Venice or Santa Monica Daily selling my Music - in other words, I don't have time necessarily to play a show I think is a waste of my time as a creative artist. YOU are who I care about. AND YOU are not going to get a good show in Hollywood. You are however going to get a 2 drink Minimum, or a place that might tow your car because you didn't read the sign, or a cover which doesn't go to me in the end, but to the club.
In other words you are going to get a lot of crap - and that's not why I came to play Music. So frankly I've boycotted most clubs here and could care less. YOU are my priority. NOT THEM. My shows will be FOR YOU - and will be easily accessible - hence my gig at the Sheraton, drop on by if you'd like. Listen to some music. There isn't a cover. I'm a paid Musician. Just go in and chill out for a few hours.
Well there you have it. I apologize for the novel, but again, we haven't talked in awhile and I want you to know where I am right now as an artist.
As far as new music is concerned, I have two songs that seem to be getting very good feedback. "LA" and "Hometown."
I will share them with you as soon as I purchase my little home recording studio, tomorrow, July 10, 2008.
I'm also hosting The Independent Scene Open Mic which happens every Thursday @ 8PM - in Echo Park at Tribal Cafe.
www.tribalcafe.com
Feel free to drop on by and listen to some great music from some wonderful Independent Artists around the LA area. And of course it's FREE and there's lots of parking.
Drop by my guest book whenever and say hello. I love hearing from all of you.
Thanks again for your awesome support and we'll talk real soon!

My Show @ Fullerton College! - March 8, 2007

Today I played Fullerton College -- @ the old Titan Student Union Pub.
Awesome Times. I met some great girsl, Priscilla and Vanessa, (Thanks for staying guys! ) and Aaron, Justin and Bubba, couldn't have been more hospitable, to an ol" Indie artist like myself. Thanks Guys. Tylorg was a very supportive fan, by purchasing a CD -- you rock dude -- and I had the fortune of running into Patrick Chavez, who actually wanted to do an article on little ol' me. Keep your eyes out for this name. Mr. Chavez is going to be an All Star Reporter someday.
Thankyou to everyone at Fullerton and the Titan Pub, for hanging out and listening to a few of my songs. I know how busy you guys are as students -- and your support is downright f'n awesome.
Look forward to playing the little Cafe soon.

Ijamr.com! - March 6, 2007

Now you can listen to my songs on www.ijamr.com

And by all means, please visit just to introduce yourself to the other musicians on this page. They're amazing! I love the internet because now it's all about YOU guys..finding new music -- and letting others know about it. :)

How cool is that? The labels have no say in what you do any more -- you can download and listen to whatever your heart desires.

And that my friends, is the true spirit of rock'n roll.

Music Magazine: - March 5, 2007

I can't wait for you guys to check out the online Music Magazine -- Ijamr.com is putting out. Yours truly is featured in there. lol. Well..um...not as a musician --- but as a writer. :) Read the articles and let me know what you think. Hope everyone in my little community here is doing well. I'm sorry I've been out of touch -- but I'm back and ready to rumble.

Muse's Muse Review - March 3, 2007

So -- Currently I'm being reviewed in the "Muse's Muse Review" by Mr. Jon Stewart --- a heck of a reviewer. I'm looking forward to reading what he has to say about, "Somewhere Out There." Can't wait to post it up here to give you guys a real professional's opinion. Not that YOU NEED IT. You are all professionals in my book. Seriously. I can't stop reading. lol.

DIY Convention - February 12, 2007

The DIY Convention was awesome.
I met some really cool people who I need to add to my links on my site.
Including, but not limited to Ian Hopkinson, Jay Spears, David Wimble from the Indie BIble, Derek Sivers from CD Baby, who had some very inspirational things to say in regards to being a successful musician, not to mention all the other artists, (there were a ton of us) I never got the names of --- but nevertheless support 100%. It's all about Community -- and sticking together as Musicians/Listeners -- Nothing like a big family --- a real-wheel-to-deal support group. (I have no idea what wheel-to-deal means, but I'm telling you -- it should be a word.

Room 5 Show. Thankyou :) - February 8, 2007

Thank you to everyone who showed up at my last show. Room 5. Especially props to Dani and her friend for driving an hour away to see my show! WOW. That's all I have to say. You guys are true-in-the-blue. My next show will be at Fullerton College -- and all info is in my calendar section if you want to come out and see some live singing, and god knows what else. lol. That's the best part about a live show.
